Gas Supply Systems and appliances
Caravanners are very dependent on (LPG) liquid petroleum gas.
It's available as propane and butane; both have their pros and cons as regards their availability and their own merits in producing heat.
Caravanners need a portable form of gas in cylinders that is lightweight. They use this for cooking, heating water and heating the interior of the caravan and sometimes for operation of the fridge.
We no longer use Calor lite gas cylinders (see my page regarding Safefill); these are filled with 6 kg of gas and when full the total weight of the gas plus cylinder is 10.52 kg. They are filled with propane gas, which vaporises at a much lower temperature than butane and is the preferred product for winter Caravanning.
There are two other companies to consider that enable you to buy the gas more cheaply overall; with these companies you purchase the cylinder which is then owned by you. Then all that you have to do is refill it with auto gas when required and when convenient as opposed to returning a part-used cylinder because of the fear of running out of gas.
